Ali Al-Azzawi

Cello Tutor

ALI AL-AZZAWI

Ali brings to our tutor team a huge diversity of experience in both teaching and performing in New Zealand and abroad. Aside from holding a bachelor’s in Russian Literature, Ali graduated with a master’s degree in Cello Performing and Teaching from the Russian State Academy of Music in Moscow. His passion for the cello is inspiring, and he actively fuels this through regular public performances, through teaching students of all ages, and through continual professional development under internationally-renowned cellists such as Yo-Yo Ma.

Ali’s teaching career began in Jordan where he taught cello, chamber music, and history of music at the National Music Conservatory and the Jordan Academy of Music. In 2002, he moved to New Zealand, and in 2006, became a member of the Institute of Registered Music Teachers.

Ali maintains a busy schedule that includes teaching in schools under the New Zealand Ministry of Education – while also maintaining a robust performance schedule in New Zealand and abroad. Ali’s extensive performing experience has stood him in good stead; it has contributed significantly to his teaching skills, enabling him to hone his students, from little children to adults, to deliver an excellent performance – whether to a large audience in a public concert or to a single person in an examination room.

Ali’s many concerts throughout the years include solo performances in Europe and the Middle East. He has also performed with the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra in the U.S. and the European Unity Symphony Orchestra in France. In addition, he was the principal cellist with the Iraqi National Symphony Orchestra as well as the Waitakere City Orchestra. In Auckland, he is a member of the Korean Love and Peace Orchestra, and is the cellist in the Auckland City Quartet as well as the Chamber Players of Auckland.

Note: Due to Ali’s busy schedule, there are only a few spaces left for new or transfer students. Please contact us for availability.
