Robert comes with decades of experience in both music education and performance.

Robert is a highly qualified music educator. In addition to ATCL (violin), Robert has a Master of Arts (Hons) in education. His thesis dealt with musical perception and training, and brings awareness of the early development of aural perception and imitation in the development of musical abilities. This has provided an enjoyable and meaningful approach to string teaching and gels with popular Suzuki School elements. As a music educator, Robert has years of experience in teaching violin and recorder in schools as well as privately, and in assisting in youth orchestras. Many of his former students are now performers.

Robert has much experience to groom his students for public performances. Till this day, he himself is actively involved in performing. He has been a violinist with the Auckland Symphony Orchestra since 1981. Over the years, he has also performed in other local orchestras – both concert and light opera, and in prominent projects such as the 1990 Commonwealth Games and King Kong.

Robert’s students also have the opportunity to benefit from his many music compositions and arrangements. He has written orchestral music including a viola concerto, as well as commemorative music for the Anzac centenary. He often arranges popular melodies for string quartets as well as interactive string trios to complement Suzuki pieces.
